On screen: Rockstar Games Online Services are unavailable right now. Please try again later.
This one genuinely goes both ways, so the first job is telling which you are looking at.
Rockstar's own article gives two causes without ranking them: an outage on their servers, or a problem with your network. That honesty is unusual and it is also why this message is so widely misdiagnosed.
It is the public face of a Rockstar incident — the message most people screenshot when something is genuinely down.
Two checks, a minute total. Look at the status block above for Rockstar's own services. Then try a phone hotspot: if the game connects on mobile data, your router, your NAT or your ISP is the problem, not Rockstar.
Operator documentation: support.rockstargames.com. Worth knowing about this source. Rockstar publishes no index of error codes at all — we checked their support home, their search, which returns a 404, and their own Error Code category filter, which returns nine articles of which one is actually about an error code. Their pages exist but are findable only through outside search. They are the third major operator we have found doing this, after Sony and Twitch. One caution on wording: the phrase people search most often is “Rockstar game services are unavailable right now”, which does not appear on Rockstar's site. Their actual strings are the one above and the code 133 and 134 messages.
