Rare names this code but does not publish the wording it prints on screen, so we quote only the code itself: Alabasterbeard, Allmondbeard and Cyanbeard. Any site showing you an exact message for it has written one.
This one genuinely goes both ways, so the first job is telling which you are looking at.
Rare reports Sea of Thieves services healthy
Rare lists all three together under one description: “Your connection to Xbox Live and/or the Sea of Thieves services has been disrupted or lost. Please check your console's network status via the Settings > Network menu.”
There is no published distinction between them. If you find a page explaining how Alabasterbeard differs from Cyanbeard, that explanation was written rather than sourced.
Note also the spelling. Rare's catalogue says Allmondbeard, with two Ls. Almondbeard does not appear in it.
Two layers can fail here, so check them in order: Xbox Live itself, then your own connection. If Xbox Live is healthy and your console's network test passes, the fault is between you and Rare's services rather than inside either end.
Operator documentation: support.seaofthieves.com. Rare documents every beard code in one catalogue, last updated 22 May 2025, and that catalogue states its own completeness. It describes causes and fixes but never quotes the message the game prints, which is why this page does not either. We keep these three on one page because Rare keeps them in one entry.

Start with: Run the console's own network test. Settings, then Network. Rare points at this first for a reason — it separates a dead link from a reachable-but-refusing service.
